How to install Tomcat in Ubuntu

TomCat
Before installing Tomcat on your Ubuntu, please make sure you have installed and configured correctly the JAVA enviroment and the latest J2SE SDK.
Step 1: Download Tomcat from http://tomcat.apache.org/
Step 2: Open the terminal and run the following commands:
sudo tar zxvf apache-tomcat-6.0.18.tar.gz
sudo cp -R apache-tomcat-6.0.18 /usr/share/tomcat6
Step 3: To start Tomcat run:
sudo /usr/share/tomcat6/bin/./startup.s
You can verify if Tomcat is running on your Ubuntu by opening the browser at the address http://localhost:8080.

sudo apt-get install tomcat6
cd /usr/share/tomcat6
sudo ln -s /var/lib/tomcat6/conf conf
sudo ln -s /etc/tomcat6/policy.d/03catalina.policy conf/catalina.policy
sudo ln -s /var/log/tomcat6 log
sudo chmod -R 777 /usr/share/tomcat6/conf
There. Use /usr/share/tomcat6 as TomCat’s home.
